TUNES YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO

Music Recs

    Miracle Musical

  • Hawaii Part II

Hawaii Part II is a masterpiece of soundscapes and genre bending psychedelia. Listen with an open heart and mind, and learn from the sequel to the islands of Hawaii.

  • Keiichi Suzuki and Hirokazu Tanaka

  • MOTHER

MOTHER is the official album version of the 1989 JRPG soundtrack from Earthbound. It is a Japanese take on American rock and psychedelic pop. The lyrics are heartfelt and full of texture. If you like the wacky chiptune sounds of Earthbound, you'll love the vibrant instrumentation of MOTHER.

  • King Crimson

  • Discipline

Classic King Crimson album full of crazy synth guitar, wild time signatures, drum beats and odd lyrics. Fun listen front to back. My favorite album of theirs but I recommend all of their stuff.

  • Shpongle

  • Are You Shpongled?

Are You Shpongled is probably my favorite Shpongle album. Full of cool electronic sounds, synths and great live drumming. My favorite track "Divine Moments of Truth" takes you on a trip around the world and is best listened to on a heavy dose of shrooms.

  • Boards of Canada

  • Geogaddi

Journey through the dark and atmospheric soundscapes of Geogaddi by Boards of Canada. This is an album I had forgotten about for years that was quite influential in my discovery of more electronic genres. It's full of interesting beats and melodies as well as fun samples. Yay!

  • King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

  • Quarters

This album was my introduction to King Gizzard and is a lo-fi, trippy rock masterpiece. Each song is 10 minutes long and there are 4 of them, hence the album title "quarters". It is a short and sweet album full of great melodies, guitar riffs, and funtastic drums :P

  • Khruangbin

  • Mordechai

Khruangbin might be one of the tightest and most chill psychedelic funk bands currently in existence. The drums are so deep in the pocket that it's ridiculous. The bass lines are simple, infectious and grooving. The guitar playing is so technical and tasty it's out of this world. All of Khruangbins albums are a must listen all the way through, but this one may be my personal favorite. It is hard to decide between them.

  • Lonnie Liston Smith & the Cosmic Echoes

  • Visions of a New World

If you need an album to relax, unwind, and maybe smoke a fat doink to then this is the one. The album is full of magically beautiful soundscapes and lyrics brimming with positivity and love. It's a funk/soul album that is required listening in my opinion.

  • Yussef Dayes

  • Live at Joshua Tree

Yussef Dayes is a UK jazz drummer that I am so happy I discovered these past five years or so. He has such a tasty and energetic style that I adore and is a master at mixing genres like Funk, Jazz, Hip Hop and Soul. His live performances are often filled with improvisations coming from both himself and the rest of his band. This is a short live album that has been in my rotation ever since it was released and you should check it out!

  • The Meters

  • The Meters

This is the first and self titled album by the classic Funk band The Meters. Often considered one of the first ever funk albums in the genre and it has inspired countless artists from its release until today. It may be one of the most sampled albums in history by Hip Hop artists and producers. The drums, bass and guitar are all so extremely rythmic and stanky. This is required listening if you like funky music.
